Application Method for Antique Wood Finish
77 Lubricite’s proprietary formula is a shellac-based padding lacquer. It is ready for use, and you do not need to add shellac, alcohol or oils. Apply 77 Lubricite™ using the French-Polish/Hand Rubbing technique. We recommend a pad for applying. Please check out these videos for further instructions on how to apply this wonderful wood finish lacquer. Or you can read about how to apply the finish here.
You can apply 77 Lubricite™ over many different materials. It is best on raw wood or newly stained wood. That is when you get the great shine. But you can also apply it to existing finishes. Each finish may require more or less layers. So be sure to understand the capabilities of this wood finish lacquer before applying to your precious antique.
Types of Lacquers Available
Our French padding lacquer is our most popular item. 77 Lubricite has one dozen ingredients that make up our modern-day French Polish. Perfect for anyone who hand polishes wood surfaces. Mix or blend this lacquer with our QT and Arti-Olesol alcohol stains for staining and glazing. Use it for touch-ups with aniline and mineral powders. You can purchase this lacquer at $77/gallon and $30/quart.
We also have black and white lacquers available for purchase. These lacquers are high solids pigmented nitrocellulose lacquer with excellent build-up properties. Then we have our clear lacquers, which provide a lustrous appearance enhancing the natural beauty of interior wood surfaces. And lastly, our brass lacquers, which is for metal and made to last and never peel.

Lubricite has been dealing with lacquers for decades. Our formula was conceived in 1948 and we have helped to make antique wood finishes shine ever since! And it is a wood finish lacquer that you can use on leather materials too! We know food furniture can incorporate leather elements, which makes using our product a go-to for these situations. You can use Lubricite 77 to glaze on color, while also sealing the leather. And since it has a little bit of oil it in, this product will also keep the leather pliable. Many high-end furniture stores use it on their leather.
